T1-Commons is a creative network that celebrates emerging and experienced visual communication designers in Western Sydney. It’s a space for creators to connect with each other across disciplines, collaborate, and promote their work.

Our name refers to the T1 western train line that connects the far reaches of Western Sydney in the Blue Mountains to the Sydney CBD. Once established, our vision is for the network to become a resource shared by members for individual and collective benefit.

We’re building a directory of local designers in Western Sydney and laying the foundation for a shared resource that will grow and diversify across platforms. We want to connect designers to a creative community that is close to home and keep designers in-the-know about upcoming exhibitions, events, and workshops.

“There’s lots of demand for design talent in Western Sydney, and I’m always getting asked for recommendations. T1–Commons will make Western Sydney’s creatives more visible and help connect you to clients, collaborators, and events in the West. Like all grassroots initiatives, it will take a small group of dedicated visionaries to start, but in time, T1-C will grow to be a valuable community asset.“

- Katrina Sandbach, Director of Academic Program (Design), Western Sydney University

“What a great way to celebrate Western Sydney talent! This will become a valuable resource for industry professionals to discover talent, while also giving students and graduates a platform to showcase their work. It will also provide students with inspiration and motivation - a look into the future of where their education and career can take them.”

- Nick Vandermolen, Design Director & Head of UX at Elephants Can Dance

“A project like T1-Commons is well overdue for Western Sydney and I am delighted to see it come to fruition. The region is full of creatives who until now have been hard to find. Some of the best advice I’ve been given is ‘it’s not who you know, it’s who knows you.’ T1-Commons will be a crucial tool in connecting creatives and clients in Western Sydney an area which is rapidly developing and will benefit from a truly local perspective.”

- Katrina James, Photographer and Founder of The Westies

“T1-Commons will give Western Sydney designers a forum to share their experiences and accomplishments. When you look at the top tier of our industry you’ll find creatives from Western Sydney working alongside some of the best professionals in the field. I would love to see our community grow and be recognised for the amazing work we are doing.”

- Maya Brasnovic, Graphic Designer/Founder of MADE:HERE

T1-Commons would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land – the Darug, Tharawal, Gandangarra and Wiradjuri peoples. We pay respect to their Elders past and present and to emerging community leaders.
